Gratitude and Joy

Day 295 – A Year of Gratitude and Joy – Rainbows

A solid day of rainstorms appears to be coming to an end as I write this. We need the rain in the desert, but my neighbors and I are pretty sick of all the mosquitoes that come with rainy weather. The monsoon season of 2022 is officially over, but there will be more storms … there always are.

This year’s storms left plenty of damage in their wake. In particular, a couple of back-to-back storms uprooted trees and left some property damaged. But after one of them, a neighbor posted a picture on Facebook of a rainbow. That got me thinking about those colorful sky arches.

Our neighborhood Facebook page shows this rainbow from weeks ago.

Biblically, God made a rainbow appear after 40 days and nights of rain to promise Noah it wouldn’t happen again. It became a symbol of hope and new beginnings.

Rainbows have appeared in mythology since its inception. Often a rainbow was thought to be a bridge between the gods and people.

The Irish will tell you that if you can find your way to the end of the rainbow, you will find a pot of gold. It’s a symbol, again, of hope for the future.

The Irish believe the rainbow represents luck and wealth.

In recent years, the rainbow has come to represent inclusion and solidarity. The colors each have a meaning. Red stands for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, blue for peace, and purple for spirit.

No matter what the rainbow means to you, it’s a beautiful sight. Last night, on the way to a party, we noticed a full rainbow in the sky. I remarked how rare the full ones are and that this is the second one in our little neighborhood in a month. I snapped a pic of it at the end of our street.

I missed the first full rainbow in our neighborhood, but I captured this one.

There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored.Never stop searching for the end of your rainbow!
