It seems a little odd to be grateful for stress, but I’ve always loved it a little bit, so why not? Some people are adrenaline junkies, craving the high created by daredevil acts like bungee jumping or parkour. While I’m not going to seek that kind of buzz, I think stress does the same thing.
Maybe that’s why I crave change. For most people, the stress of change is horrifying, for me it’s exhilarating. If you don’t believe it, just scroll through my blog titles this year … getting a puppy the day we returned from a two-week vacation and totally redoing our garage are two that stand out particularly.
I constantly sit at my computer planning trips to the far ends of the Earth. Many never happen, but even now we have a BIG trip on the books for next summer and several smaller road trips and little adventures planned between now and then.
I love the stress of packing and wondering what I forgot. I love the stress of making sure I have all my documents and put a stop on my mail delivery. It’s a little crazy, I know, but anyone who knows me will tell you my face lights up at the prospect of a new adventure.
I even look forward to regular stressful times … like the holiday season. When will we hang the lights and put up the trees? What will I get for my kids and grandkids for Christmas? Should we plan a big meal with friends or go out? Holiday stress is joyful.
So, yeah, here I sit being grateful and happy about stress. Who’s with me?
There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Have fun with the stress of life.
