Gratitude and Joy

Day 301 – A Year of Gratitude and Joy – Paperwork

When I first joined our glass club, I thought it would be a fun, creative hobby and nothing more. I was wrong! I’ve made friends, learned a new skill and discovered that even in retirement, my proficiency with paperwork makes me useful.

I met the club member who maintains the sign-out sheets for the hundreds of molds we all use to create our glass pieces and we started chatting. She was looking to move to a different position and I saw my chance to volunteer with the club. The first thing we decided to do was an inventory-esque overhaul of the form.

The hundreds of molds require good organization.

It was a bit daunting to say the least. Each mold has a sign-out page and each page includes photos of the mold and, when one is available, a photo of an unfinished project using that mold. The pages include information about technique and other specifics. I had to recreate each page.

A display case is another opportunity to see what the molds can help you create.

It took about a week of full-time computer work to get it done. The follow-up was about six hours with a seasoned glass professional and club member to make sure all the changes we needed to make were incorporated and each page was correct. WHEW!

My laptop and notebook came in handy for the in-studio paperwork.

Last night we wrapped up that step. I have a few changes to make and then the pages are off to the printer before the new pages premiere in the sign-out books at the studio. The end is in sight and I am filled with joy. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of accomplishment you can get when you spend hours and hours on a successful job.

There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Take care of the paperwork before you go.
