Family, Gratitude and Joy

Day 227 – A Year of Gratitude and Joy – Moments

A memory from several years ago popped up on my Facebook feed earlier this week reminding me of the anniversary of my divorce being final.

I will never forget the moment I learned I was a “free woman.” It was unexpected! My attorney told me to expect the final decree in a couple of weeks, instead it took ONE day! The relief of the news was overwhelming. The process had been stressful and contentious. I was standing in my office at work and sank into my chair, unable to stand from the shock of it. I burst into tears of joy.

A moment frozen in time.

That moment is one of a handful in my life that sticks with me.We all have those moments, the details of which are forever etched in our minds. A flash of time that changed our lives forever leaving an indelible mark in our past.

It’s the moment a child is born … the first cry, the doctor announcing, “it’s a girl” (or boy), that first touch of your baby’s skin.

Seeing my first grandchild.

It’s the surprise when someone special drops to one knee and asks you to spend the rest of your life together.

Of course I said yes.

It’s the look in his eyes as you exchange your vows.

I still do.

And then there are the moments that happen to the whole world at the same time – the “where were you when …” moments. For me, the moment the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded is one of those.  And who among us can’t recall in great detail where you were when the towers fell on 9/11?

I’m so grateful for these moments in time. The freeze frames are stored in our memory banks so we can pull them out on occasion and remember the joy (or pain) we felt for a fleeting second.

There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. May your life be filled with memorable moments along life’s journey.
