They say a picture is worth a thousand words, especially in a blog such as this one. Judy nearly had a heart attack when I told her I wanted to write a blog with no photos (we obviously compromised), but there’s something truly joyous about ditching the phones and their ubiquitous cameras and living in the moment.
The occasion was our neighbor Kathleen’s “37th” birthday. We had been invited to join her and her husband for dinner at one of the nicer restaurants near us to celebrate. As we rushed out the door to meet them, we both realized we forgot our phones.

It was a happy accident for which I’m truly grateful..
We’re both pretty good about putting the phones down at dinner and enjoying the conversation at hand, but through the course of the evening we both felt the pull to take photos and capture the memories.

We needn’t have worried, as the memories are etched in our brains. The evening was glorious. We arrived as the sun was nearing the horizon, sitting on the shade-protected patio. As the sun went down, the shades came up. The temperature was perfect, with a lack of humidity we’ve missed for much of the Monsoon Season. We talked, we laughed, we ate some fabulous food. The girls loved their fruity cocktails; David and I enjoyed a bottle of red … just a glass for me since I was driving. We chatted with the folks at the table next to us, and tried to engage with their well-behaved and precious two-year-old boy. (We did take a picture of all of them … on their phone!). As we got up to leave, we realized we had spent two-and-a-half hours together!
There’s a whole world out there waiting to be explored. Ditch the camera from time to time to fully take in all the sights, smells, tastes, and especially, the camaraderie of good friends.
