“The World A to Z” is all about adventure. What started as a dream at the beginning of the millenium fed our wanderlust and became a life goal. Its genesis is explained in one of the first blogs on this site. Judy started the blog more than 10 years ago to bring her hand-written journals to life and share for all to enjoy. Greg happily embraced the dream and brought his own creativity to our stories.
I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t traveling. Born into an Air Force family, I’ve been on the move since birth. I’ve lived in 16 states and four countries. To me, the insatiable desire to see more places, meet more people, and try more things is like breathing.
I spent years explaining the only reason I had a job was to pay for my next trip. As an active duty Air Force broadcaster, I lived in Greenland, Italy and Germany. After leaving the military, I became an award-winning journalist.
I’ve been known to tell people who ask that for every bucket list item I tick off my list, I add two more. Can you ever see enough? I say, “no way.”
Every journey is exciting! I’m always ready to throw a couple of things into a bag and go anywhere. I’ve even been on a couple of trips when I left with a toothbrush and a credit card. After all, life is an exhilarating adventure. I’m lucky enough to be able to explore and share my experiences.
Jimmy Buffett once sang, ““I’ve got a school boy heart, a novelist’s eye; Stout sailor’s legs, and a license to fly.” I don’t have Jimmy’s musical talents but these words could have been written about me. I’ve been a sailor, a pilot, and a writer. I’ve been a wildly successful marketer and public relations practitioner, and a mildly successful entrepreneur, historian, and advisor. I’ve made money; I’ve been in debt. I’ve loved and I’ve lost love, but in the end found true love.
And in that true love, I found a partner to satisfy my unrequited wanderlust. When Judy and I got together, she was well into the alphabet trips, while most of my travels to that point had been in the U.S. She was already planning the “K is for Krakow” trip and asked if I wanted to go.
“Hell yeah,” I said. “I’m all in.”
It’s been one adventure after another ever since.
