Gratitude and Joy

Day 19 – A Year of Gratitude and Joy – Sunbeams

I think I am channeling my inner dog (or maybe cat). As I sat at my desk, I noticed the sun shining brightly outside the window. I glanced down at the bottom right corner of my computer screen to check the outdoor temperature. My little weather notification showed 71 ℉ … in JANUARY!

I decided it was a great day to open the door and let a little of the fresh air inside. And that’s when I turned into every dog I’ve ever known. As I opened the door, the warm sunshine streamed in and painted a brilliant swath of light on the carpet. I stood there, my bare feet bathed in warmth and gave serious consideration to laying down right then and there and just soaking up the heat like a dog.

I could curl up on the carpet, right?

Every pet I’ve ever had has done that. Whether the sun shone in the doorway or through a window, that beam of light drew them in like a magnet. I’ve seen friends’ pets do the same thing, and why wouldn’t they? That deliciously toasty spot yearns to be occupied in a lazy-day demonstration of how to relax.

Warm sun, a cozy blanket, a nice nap … yep, I might be part dog.

So, today (and every day) I am grateful for the warm sun that streams into my home and brings me joy.

There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Soak up the warmth of the sun.
