Family, Gratitude and Joy

Day 290 – A Year of Gratitude and Joy – New Family

A co-worker sent a note yesterday telling our team he was visiting his five-day-old granddaughter and would be unavailable for a couple of days. It instantly reminded me of the joy we all share when new family members arrive!

It took me back just a few short years ago when granddaughter Dani was born. We were fraught with anticipation, but when it finally arrived, all that went away and we couldn’t wait to get down to see her. We didn’t even get out of our work clothes! Holding that bundle of joy is forever etched in my memory.

Meeting Dani for the first time.

The recent anniversary of some dear friends reminded me of the joy of welcoming new sons and daughters into the family through marriage … or in-laws!

Dolled up and ready to celebrate a wedding.

Pets are family, too! The story of how we got Enzo has been well told in this blog and I still marvel at how much he’s grown in the last four months. The untold story is how much others shared in our joy with our new family member. Colleagues were itching to see pictures and wanted me to hold him in front of the camera during virtual meetings.

That little puppy kiss sealed the deal.

As I write this, I can’t help but smile at all the new family members who have entered my life … that’s one of the joys of being of a certain age. It’s also a reminder of the ones we’ve lost, but even then, I cannot help but think of the joyful lives they’ve lived and their positive impact on our lives.

There’s a whole world out there waiting to be explored. Celebrate whenever new family becomes part of the journey!
