Anyone of a certain age gets the humor in the title of today’s blog. Years ago there was a running joke that the world was ending. It had serious and somber roots based on the worldwide threat of nuclear war, but it became humorous over time. For me … it’s about a mere 75 days from the end of my year of gratitude and joy.
At times, this year has been a struggle. I find that I am often grateful for the same things over and over again. Just yesterday Greg offered to write a guest blog about how much joy he gets when he scrolls through his Facebook memories each day. I told him I’d already done it.
I am always (well … almost always) grateful for Greg, my amazing neighbors, the Arizona sunshine, lazy days, great food. There are dozens of things I could write about everyday. But, that would get boring for you and me.
Another challenge was taking a couple of weeks off for our big vacation to Italy. I wanted to be able to relax and enjoy the trip without a constant consideration of what I would write about each day. I spent almost a month working ahead. When we left on vacation I had 17 blogs scheduled. It was a huge relief. When we got back, the blogs about the vacation flowed easily.
Often, I wake up early only to realize I have nothing scheduled … and nothing in my head. Honestly, that’s rarely a challenge. I find so many things to be grateful and joyful for each day. But as I near the end of the year, it is tapping into my creativity a lot more often.
So, as odd as it may seem, today I am most grateful for this blog and the readers who occasionally recognize me and tell me how happy they are when they read it each day. I am grateful for the challenge of finding new things to share that bring me (and hopefully you, too) joy.
There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Find something to bring gratitude and joy into your day.
