As I sit here typing this morning I have one eye on the weather. A cold front is approaching and it will bring unseasonably cold temps … rare and awful for our desert world, but nothing like a “real” winter storm.
The higher elevations of roads in the Rockies are seeing the potential for more than two feet of snow. While they get snow there all the time, when it hits big and fast, it creates a challenge they have to deal with quickly.
We are headed into this dicey weather season and while I am concerned … even worried … about friends and loved ones, I also feel grateful for living on the desert floor. Our impact goes to digging out jeans and a sweater or two.
I am confident that my loved ones will make it through the winter unscathed. They are, after all, smart enough to prepare and be ready. My kids have lived through back-to-back blizzards and know what needs to be done in the event of power outages and being stuck for a week.
For us, we’re ready for the potential of beautiful sunsets and sunrises that often accompany these storms in the skies over the neighborhood. Others will, no doubt, capture the images better than I and I will marvel at the photos that preserve the spectacular, joyous views.
In the meantime, be careful wherever you live. Watch the weather. Prepare for severe conditions. Stay safe out there this winter.
