It’s pretty much impossible to get through this week without seeing something that says, “Give Thanks.” The simple message is on plaques, signs, platters, napkins, wreaths … it’s everywhere. Naturally, it’s the message of the season because of Thanksgiving. For me, it’s been the message for almost an entire year.
I didn’t always feel so grateful. When I was a single mom, living paycheck to paycheck, it was tough to find a lot to be grateful for. I just wanted things to be easier and it often seemed like life had something more difficult in mind for me in my 20s.
Fast forward to now … some 30 years later. I’d like to believe karma, life, God and all the other powers in the universe decided I’d paid the appropriate dues. Of course, it could also have something to do with figuring out that happiness is a choice and so is gratitude. You have to choose to find them and then embrace them.
As we enter the holiday season, I hope each and everyone finds something to be grateful for, something that brings joy into their lives. Tomorrow, as we collectively celebrate our reasons to be thankful, I hope joy runs rampant in your life, gatherings are filled with laughter and bountiful meals remind us all how lucky we are.

There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Give thanks.
