I am grateful for video chatting.
I’m lucky to have grandchildren who take a break from their games and give me an occasional video jingle to say hi. I get to share in their daily sibling squabbles and laugh at their goofiness.
Last year, when Sam wasn’t feeling well, he video-chatted me and we made mac and cheese together. He’d never made it and I was able to walk him through the process successfully.
And it’s not just the kids. I am able to stay in touch with my mom on video. We can see each other’s faces and share a laugh or two.
I don’t take it for granted. When my daughter was three, she called her father on her birthday to speak with him. I snapped a pic of her. It seems almost comical now. She’s on a landline phone, corded and everything. No pics, no video. Technology can be a wonderful thing.
There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Call home from the other side of the world.
