Gratitude and Joy

Day 47 – A Year of Gratitude and Joy – Warmth (Guest Blog)

The high temperature forecast for this weekend is in the 80s. The pool is now covered, starting to soak in the sun. I turned off the camera and took a meeting from the pool deck, relishing the ultraviolet rays as they infused vitamin D in my body.

It’s February in Arizona, and I’m grateful for warmth!

A February heat wave lets us get our base tan started.

My Facebook feed is littered with the detritus of a snow and ice-covered nation to the east … National Weather Service forecasts for the Washington, D.C. area showing overnight lows in the 20s everywhere you look … a funny video of a guy in a bathrobe using a flamethrower to clear his driveway. I did a television interview for work with one of the TV personalities bundled-up for his live shots outside … in Dallas!

A live news shot shows how cold it is in Dallas.

When Judy and I lived in northern Virginia, we often spent cold winter nights covered in blankets by the fireplace, sipping hot chocolate laced with something alcoholic, staying warm and happy that we weren’t outside. These days, the fireplace is unnecessary and the “something alcoholic” usually tinkles with ice.

Even at Christmas there was no need for hot beverages.

There’s a whole world out there, waiting to be explored. Cold and snowy has its own beauty, but sometimes you just need to go where it’s warm!
