I won’t belabor the fact that the travel bug bit me hard in my youth and I suffer from incurable wanderlust. I will point out, though, that the condition means even planning a trip brings me great joy. I am immensely grateful for even the IDEA of travel.
When I decide on a destination, I tend to dive into the concept for days. I search for “things to do.” I gather information online and in bookstores.
I buy pocket maps for easy sightseeing and road maps in case my phone loses signal in the middle of nowhere.
I head to Google Maps and plan routes, with options and highlights and must-see landmarks.
But it’s not just the places I have already chosen. I rarely walk past a display of travel brochures without picking up at least one. I keep a file of places that pique my interest and pull it out regularly to find a weekend getaway or longer vacation destination.
My desk is littered with tchotchkes from my travels – ticket stubs, brochures, maps and souvenirs.
Travel inspires me and thrills me.
There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Find something new to bring you joy.
