It’s Valentine’s weekend. OK, I know that’s not a thing, but it feels like the whole country is focused on hearts and flowers and love. Women (and men) expect a bouquet of blooms, chocolate and/or a card. It’s become “a thing.” I find that a little disappointing … I prefer surprises.
In fact, I am grateful for those little moments of shock and glee. I love unexpected gifts. Just last week, Greg ran to the store for a few things and, much to my surprise, came home with a colorful bouquet.
Over the weekend, we received our monthly wine club shipment. In addition to the three bottles we expected, Liza delivered an additional case. When I asked her about it, she said a friend contacted her and arranged for the surprise. It was a completely over-the-top thank you gift for hosting them in our home. WOW!
Last week, I was chatting with a neighbor about Valentine’s Day. He mentioned those little candy hearts with messages on them. It started us chatting about candy we never see anymore. When I surprised him with a little box of the hearts, he had me laughing with glee at his response of Bazooka bubble gum and Sweettarts.
Surprises are joyful. I’m grateful for friends and loved ones who appreciate the delight of sharing and receiving gifts out of the blue.
There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Take delight in the unexpected!
