We’ve been able to open up the house lately. The weather is cooperating and the spring breezes are bringing in fresh scents. It’s literally a breath of fresh air. I’m so grateful.
It’s not just the outdoor smells, though. My home is filled with amazing aromas. A particular favorite is a candle that was a gift this past December. It smells like leather and cinnamon. That may sound weird but it fills the room with this earthy, delicious smell that makes me stop and inhale deeply.

We have plug-ins in all the bathrooms. I spend time at Bath and Body Works sniffing the options before I fill a basket with refills to perfume the air in the rooms that need it most.
I light candles. I turn on the lights to heat the wax in my Scentsy burners. I love the smells that fill the air in each of the rooms of the house.
I love the mouth-watering aroma of onions and garlic as they sizzle in a pan. Or the incredible scent of freshly baking bread or baked goods. Kitchen smells can be amazing. Fresh lemons, herbs, steak on the grill … so many great smells come via food.

And then there’s my favorite smell … each morning, after Greg gets ready for his day, I sneak into the bathroom and sniff the air. It’s the clean smell of his shaving soap and after-shave gel. It reminds me a little of when I was young and my dad would be ready to leave for work … smelling of Aqua Velva and Ivory soap.
There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.

My dad smelled of Aqua Velva and cigarettes. Perhaps not as pleasant, but that’s what I remember…and it’s a memory I cherish.
