Day 110 – A Year of Gratitude and Joy – Cheesy Romance Novels

I love a good book! Sometimes it takes me a chapter or two to really get into it, but once the story bites, I’m hooked! There are several authors I really enjoy, but truth be told, sometimes I head over to the cheesy romance section of the bookstore for a couple of paperbacks. Greg knows this, so for Christmas this year, he threw a couple of cowboy-themed novels into my stocking.

My Christmas gifts had a decidedly “cowboy” theme.

The other day, I finished the last of them. I took my time and wandered through the stories relishing in the campy lines, predictable plots and fascinating descriptions. It’s a fun distraction and I delight in the easy entertainment. Of course, sometimes a line or two strikes a chord in me. I’ve highlighted passages, torn out pages and shared lines with friends. The most recent was a line in One Night Charmer by Maisey Yates: “Love isn’t a finish line. It’s the first step on a journey.”

I highlight and underline quotes I want to find again.

Once, in a bookstore, I saw a quote on the wall. I loved it so much I tracked down the source and bought the book, The Chaos of Stars. The story made the quote even better. I had it laser-cut into copper and it takes up an entire wall in our bedroom.

An all-time favorite quote from a novel.

Sure, I’ll go back to crime novels and mysteries again. But for now, I’m grateful for the delightfully fun stories in the paperback romance section of the store.

There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Explore a fantasy world in the pages of a book while you’re at it.
