A couple of weeks ago, a friend asked if I would like to go with her to an “acrylic pouring class.” My immediate response was, “Sure … what’s acrylic pouring?” I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
I made a trip to a local craft store for some acrylic paints and ended up with a 36 color assortment. I mean, I had no idea what I was doing, and the assortment looked cool. I also picked up a six-pack of 10×14 canvases. I needed ONE! Again … what if I like it? Why run back to the store, right?
On schedule, she picked me up in her golf cart and we mosey’d on over to “Sue’s” house. After a quick tour of her home, which is filled with incredible art … and it’s all HERS!! … We headed out to her “studio.” It’s a converted golf cart garage. We coated our canvases with plain white and started experimenting with this crazy fun technique. I went first … three little cups of color, white, a teeny bit of water and some silicone drops all went into a big funnel. I drizzled it onto my white canvas and picked it up. Tip, slide, ooze, drip … voila! ART!!
Tippy went next. She tried a really cool technique. Soak a piece of string in a paint, lay it on the canvas and drag it off … OH WOW! It looks like a flower.
Leeann was next. She did the cup method … I don’t think that’s the official name, but that’s what we called it. Fill little cups with watered-down paint and plop it upside down on your canvas (Leeann used a burgundy for her background).
After some tipping, sliding and dripping … hers was art, too.
OK … this is crazy fun. I’m glad I got the extra canvases and paints. When my grandkids come to visit this summer, we’re gonna have an art day!
There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Say yes … even if you don’t know what you might be getting into. Life is an adventure, after all.
