Gratitude and Joy

Day 125 – A Year of Gratitude and Joy – My New Phone

It wasn’t that long ago when the idea of getting a new cell phone meant days of adding your contacts and the apps that didn’t transfer to your new phone, learning how to use the new operating system, and, in general, figuring it out. Those days are GONE!

When I started getting emails from my cell phone provider, I groaned. “You’re eligible for an upgrade” … blah blah blah. I ignored them for months. Then, they got me. The email offered a new phone for $0 cost with an eligible trade-in. As a skeptic, I figured that meant my current phone was not on the “eligible” list. Surprise! It was!

My old phone was in need of an upgrade.

I have learned that, if you have the time, going to the store for a new phone is infinitely better than trying to do it all online. The salesperson in the store has access to offers that you won’t be able to find online without some advanced tech skills. I braced myself for a long wait and headed to a store.

The store was bright, clean, well-stocked and virtually empty.

Another surprise. The store was pretty much empty. Jonathan walked up to me as I stepped through the door and asked if he could help me with anything. I mentioned the “free phone” email and he knew exactly what I was talking about. He walked me over to the new phones and explained the differences. So far … easy, right?

The options included in my upgrade offer.

I chose the one I wanted and considered myself lucky (again) that they even had the color I wanted in stock at the store. Jonathan went to get my new phone, found a discount I’d been missing out on and started the process of switching to my new phone. He even explained and added an international calling option for when I travel.

Jonathan figured out all my upgrades and options on his tablet.

Here’s the best part – EVERYTHING showed up on my new phone! All my apps, all my contacts, all my photos, even my call history transferred over. I did have to reconnect to my car’s bluetooth, but that was easy. I ordered a new case (Jonathan pointed out I could have more options and less cost through Amazon) that even has a slider to protect the camera lenses.

My new case is pink, like my new phone.

Now I get to play with some of the new features, learn the new camera options and relax and enjoy a better battery life.

There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. With cameras in our phones and international calling plans, everything really is in the palm of your hand.
