Dear Retailers,
If you want me to use your smartphone app, register for your emails and send me coupons and sale info, then MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SIGNAL IN YOUR STORES!
Love, Judy
Yesterday I stopped into one of my favorite stores to use a birthday coupon. I shopped, filled a basket and made my way to the check-out counter at the back of the store. There was no line, so I poured out my finds and opened my phone to call up the coupon — after all, the company had sent me an email, so that’s where I needed to start.
I clicked on the email icon on my home screen and waited … then noticed I only had a single signal pip. ARGH!
This is not the first time this has happened. In fact, it happens almost every time I go to a store and need to open an email or call up a coupon in the app. What the heck? I asked the cashier to hold my purchases so I could walk to the front of the store and call up the coupon where there was enough signal to open their app. We joked about how technology is great … when it works!

After a frustrating few moments, I was able to use my coupon, pay for my items and head to the car. I thought about the whole situation. I’ve tried screen grabs of the coupon … sometimes they work; sometimes they don’t! Why is this even a thing? It’s not just me. I’ve been in line behind others with the same dilemma. I’ve shopped with friends who share my frustration. With the proliferation of information being sent on the information superhighway, why is this problem so hard to solve?
There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Don’t count on wifi or cell signal to explore it.

This is so true! Grocery stores can be the worst. Wait- apps that you use for hiking. Talk about losing a signal when you are miles in on a trail is frustrating. Thank goodness I’ve learned to screen shot just in case!
