I mentioned that I met a couple of girlfriends in Las Vegas for two nights. “Girls weekends” have become a thing for us, with a twist. First, we have not been able to make it a truly regular thing. In fact, even this one took three years to put together and one of our group was not able to make it.
This time, the two of them flew into Vegas and I drove up. The plan was a little fun in Sin CIty, then a road trip back to my house for a nice long weekend. We timed it to coincide with Luke Days, the annual air show featuring the USAF Thunderbirds at Luke Air Force Base. When the base canceled the air show for the third year in a row, it looked like the reunion was off, too … but my friends decided that doesn’t mean our reunion should be canceled.
We had coordinated packing lists and all brought something “nice” to wear, but the sun rose brightly and we opted for shorts and comfy shoes as we headed out to explore the Vegas Strip. After grabbing breakfast, we headed to the sunny side of the street. Before long, we popped into one of the casino shopping areas and window shopped the sparkly, high end jewelers.
We wandered the day away … in and out of shops, across casino floors, into a restaurant for lunch and a lot of out-in-the-sun time. We snapped selfies, told stories and laughed til we cried.
The visit started out pretty lame by 20-year-old standards, but we were in our little Heaven. Dinner at a German restaurant then back to our hotel suite where we talked ‘til midnight. The next day … the road trip moved south to the Valley of the Sun.
There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Grab a few lifelong friends and laugh along the way.

Sometimes just being together is more important than filling your days with a to-do list. It brings you back to a time when younger you just hung out with these special friends and made the bond you have today. Sounds like a great trip.
