Gratitude and Joy

Day 201 – A Year of Gratitude and Joy – Sleeping In

I am a morning person. For many, the idea of waking up bright and cheerful at an early hour is, no doubt, an impossible concept. Nonetheless, that’s me. Even more gobsmacking is that I really don’t need coffee. In fact, I never touched the stuff until I was 50.

It’s rare for me to sleep in, so imagine my surprise when I rolled over this morning and took a look at the clock and saw “6:52.” I jumped up, looked for Enzo – who appeared to be missing – and dashed out of the bedroom. Greg had gotten up early and spirited our puppy away to do his business. He said, “you were sleeping so soundly, why would I wake you?”

I filled a cup with coffee (it’s more a habit than a need for sure, but I do drink one cup every morning), found Greg in the office playing with Enzo, and sat down at my computer to write today’s blog. With no idea in my head, I considered not writing one. For a brief moment. My year almost turned into 200 days of gratitude and joy. Then it hit me … sleeping in!

I am more refreshed than usual. I am calm and clear-headed and relaxed. Admittedly, 7 am isn’t exactly sleeping in for most people, but for me that extra hour-or-so has made a world of difference.

Already as I type this, I am thinking about all the things I want to get done today. For now, I’ll just relax with my coffee as my puppy sleeps at my feet. It’s going to be a great day.

There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Sleep in once in a while and explore it with refreshed eyes.
