There must be something in the air that’s making me laugh more. I find myself grinning suddenly at things that strike me as ridiculous. Maybe it’s the heat of the summer waning a bit and bringing fall breezes in. I love this time of year, so it’s entirely possible the weather is adding to my ability to find humor in practically everything.
Yesterday, on my way home from running errands I checked my rearview mirror at a light. There was a woman behind me with an incredibly sparkly bracelet glinting in the afternoon sun. Her steering wheel was wrapped in a sparkly cover. I tried to capture a picture, but as you can see, she was not cooperating — at least you can see the steering wheel cover. It made me laugh.
Then last night we went for a ride around the neighborhood. There was a wonderful evening breeze blowing and Enzo’s ears were lifted into the air. I laughed out loud and wondered if anyone else would remember Sally Field as Sister Bertrille in The Flying Nun.

As I considered my newfound appreciation for the laughable, I flashed back to a sign on a train in Ireland. The sign attempted to express a typical train activity and give it a name – Snoofing. I googled it … the word actually has a couple of meanings, but I like the Irish take on it the best.
There was the time we were in Krakow. We were strolling in the evening chill of December when we passed a liquor store.I had to take a picture after we spent several minutes laughing about the possibilities of the name.
Another great store sign deserved a snapshot while we were wandering the Amalfi Coast this summer. I’m fairly certain it was something like an over-the-counter pharmacy, but the name was worth a laugh and photo.
I am grateful for laughter and a life that brings me easy joy. As I enter the final 100 days of my Year of Gratitude and Joy, I am struck by how lucky I am to have so many things to be happy about. I hope you are, too!
There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Laughing makes the journey easier.
