What About the New Year?

A year ago I wrote about not doing New Year’s Resolutions. Statistically most of them fail anyway. I suggested that if you want to make a change, why wait until the New Year? Start as soon as you make your decision. That’s why my “Year of Gratitude and Joy” started on December 27.

Here it is a year (and two days) later and after looking back over 2022, I’ve decided I need to make some adjustments in my life. Step one … pay attention to my conversations! There’s nothing quite as irksome as talking to someone who looks down at their phone or over to the TV or … well, you get it. When I realized I do that, too, I decided to STOP IT!

How much do we miss because we’re paying attention to our phones instead of our surroundings? (Photo: Pexels.com)

Step two … be a little less lazy. If you really know me, you will know that I am SOOO lazy! I even keep everything really organized so I don’t have to waste time looking for anything. That buys me more time to sit around doing nothing … and that’s a win! The trouble is, there’s stuff I want to do that I keep putting off. I just gotta get up off my couch and do it!

That sums it up nicely. (Photo: Pexels.com)

Step three … try LOTS more new recipes! I have a cookbook collection that consists of a tiny number of books with well-worn and used pages and a rather large stack of books that include one or two recipes I’ve tried. That stops now! Tonight I am going to make Lemon Risotto. The recipe intrigues me and my lemon tree is weighed down with delicious, ripe lemons just waiting to be picked and used.

Well-worn and new cookbooks share shelf space in my pantry.

Oh … and I’ll keep blogging, just not everyday. Taking a couple of days off has been great. I slept in, took care of chores, watched Christmas movies and started a puzzle with Greg. It’s been relaxing, but my muse keeps tapping me on the shoulder and reminding me to get back to the keyboard. I hope to get back to more travel blogs, especially when it comes to discovering more local places. That way my tagline will make sense again. HA!

There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. I’m starting between the pages of a cookbook.
