Is It Time To Travel Again?

Friends, family, even strangers are asking me, “When do you think we can travel again?” I thought I’d take the opportunity to let you know what I’m reading and hearing.

Just yesterday, I read an article that says Europe is poised to re-open its borders to tourists this summer. To be fair, one of the biggest concerns has been U.S. tourists. Here in the U.S. there isn’t a lot of consistency when it comes to COVID. Some areas are still hot spots while others have had great numbers. The E.U. is concentrating on safety for its citizens and member states.

Being fully vaccinated will help you get back out there.

For most countries there, the concern is which other nations have (or are close to achieving) herd immunity. That mostly means who’s been able to get vaccines into arms. It looks like the U.S. will be there around June, so Europeans are considering allowing American travelers who’ve been fully vaccinated. It’s something I am anxiously awaiting, but it’s a small piece of the world.

Some of the world is already opening up. Greece, which early on explained much of its economy is based on tourism, has eliminated the quarantine requirement beginning May 15. Iceland is allowing vaccinated travelers. France’s President is calling for eased travel restrictions this summer.

Beyond Europe, every nation is hoping to see travelers return with their tourist dollars. Cruise companies are beginning to book reservations and schedule sailings. And here’s the best part: There are BARGAINS everywhere!

Much of the world seems to be on sale right now.

Everything I am reading from inside and outside the travel industry says book now! Almost everywhere you want to go is allowing you to book further out in case you are still a little nervous about travel.

If you’re not sure where to begin, this might be the time to try out a travel agent. These professionals are clamoring to help you travel and, like most small businesses, are desperately in need of customers. They know where you can go, where you still can’t go and where to find the bargains.

You will still have to wear a mask in most places.

Yes, you will still have to wear a mask. Yes, you are likely to see some amenities at your hotel closed. Yes, outdoor dining will still be a thing in many places. No, it won’t be “just like it used to be.” But … travel is coming back. There is reason for optimism among people like me who have a critical case of wanderlust. Everyone must decide for themselves whether to get the shot or whether to return to travel.

As for me, I feel a little like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon. I feel like I’m ready to flex my wings, warm and dry them in the sun and feast on all the world has to offer.

There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. I, for one, am anxious to get out there and explore it with elan.
