Author’s note: Wow … I’m a month in. So far, so good. I hope you are enjoying these moments of joy.
The best people I know I’ve met because of travels. I have amazing friends, but I’ve met some pretty remarkable people while traveling too. And … to be fair, ALL of my friends I’ve met because of travels.
As a military brat, I moved every couple of years growing up. It’s reasonable to say that all the friends I made in my youth were because we traveled as much as we did.
Then I became an adult. Still, my life was about travel. I was on active duty in the United States Air Force and moved often. Travel, therefore, took me to different places and introduced me to different people. I made friends in Greenland, Italy, Delaware and Germany while I served. Even after I left the military, I still traveled as often as I could.
I moved jobs, too. As I moved from one job to another, I met more people. Some became friends, one became my husband! Moving to a new job is a lot like travel because it leads me to new people.
Travel brought me to Arizona. Here I’ve made friends that are remarkable in their variety. We are from everywhere, but somehow manage to have become fast friends and close, trusted neighbors.
I’m sure over the course of my year of gratitude and joy I will find myself grateful for friends on several occasions, so today is the first. I am grateful and filled with joy for knowing so many amazing people.
There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. Make a few friends along the way.
