Food, Gratitude and Joy, Italy

Day 179 – A Year of Gratitude and Joy – The Food in Italy

In all my travels, there is no question in my mind where you can get the best food … Italy! To be fair, I know my taste in food isn’t the same as everyone’s … and I like food from pretty much everywhere … but Italy is hands down my favorite.

The pasta is insanely fresh and topped with so many different things. There’s cacio e pepe, bolognese, sausage and truffles, pomodoro … the list goes on and on.

The seafood is amazing. Naturally, with Italy being a peninsula, you can get fresh seafood everywhere … fish, shellfish, squid … all grilled, fried, broiled. I’m a sucker for gamberoni alla griglia (grilled shrimp)! There is a seemingly endless variety of meats and preparation styles.

And no Italian meal can begin without antipasti … meats and cheeses, breads, bruschetta …

Desserts are extra. We only opted for a few, but they melt in your mouth and satisfy your craving for a little sweet ending to a delicious meal.

No matter where we went, the food was spectacular! There is so much to see and do in Italy, but for me, the food is the star of any vacation there.

There’s a whole world out there just waiting to be explored. There’s nothing more satisfying than a great plate of local cuisine to get a flavor of a place.
